This organization is one of the best resources for learning about mental illness and substance use disorders. They have information about anxiety, bipolar, signs of depression, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Psychosis and more. They also offer free screenings for individuals to determine if they are experiencing symptoms of a mental health condition. The National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI) NAMI is another amazing resource for education, advocacy, and support. NAMI is the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness. Launched in 2011, MakeTheConnection.net connects Veterans, their family members and friends, and other advocates with mental health information, local resources, and Veterans’ own inspiring stories of recovery. Visitors can learn about the signs of problems with drugs and alcohol and find sources of support. The site is free and accessible to everyone. |
COPING WITH STRESS
Stress is hard to define because it means different things to different people; however, it’s clear that most stress is a negative feeling rather than a positive feeling. A well-known tool used by health professionals to measure the amount of stress someone’s experiencing is the Holmes-Rahe Life Stress Inventory.
